This past week, my friend had her third baby. He is a dream.

Meet Landon:

Here is big sister, Lydia. Yes, she is a doll!

And big brother, Logan. :) He did NOT want his picture taken. Probably because he is so handsome.

Before my visit, I made some cookies for the family. Mascarpone Oreo Snowflake Cookies- made from this recipe here by Kevin and Amanda. They turned out super yummy. When I posted that I was bring cookies with Oreos inside, Mr. Dad joked around that I was bringing "cannibal cookies." Get it? Cookies in a cookie? ;) Anyhow, they are divine and such a big hit. The parents and older brother and sister loved them. Do you have a new recipe that you love? Share it! :)

It's been a great weekend spending time with friends and getting some snuggle time with the new baby.

New Year's Resolution- Learn to Crochet

This year for my New Year's Resolution I decided that I wanted to learn to crochet. I first explored the art of crochet when I was in middle school, but I never really enjoyed it or got the hang of it.

Thanks to my beautiful and intelligent sister-in-law, Jemima, I have learned once again. She is an excellent teacher. Here are some of the new things I've crocheted.

I've hit a slump. Is there really a reason for me to keep sewing items for White Satin Ribbon? Lately I've been feeling like I'm pushing and pushing, thinking I'll go miles, but when I turn around I've moved an inch. *ugghhh* I like to think that I'm investing my time, effort, and money for something worthy, but in reality, maybe I'm just spending my time, effort, and money. People often use those two words interchangeably in regard to time, but everyone knows that you can spend money and missed out completely on an investment. I LOVE making and sewing new items for people, but at what cost?

Will this ever become a full-time business? Is this realistic? Do I want it to? What are my expectations? I'll be brewing on that one for a while longer.

I suppose this has really come about due to me losing a wholesale client. It was so close I could almost taste it and then.. POOF! It left as quickly as it came. I'm going to set my sights on my Lord and His Word that He's given to us:

Lollipop Burp Cloth Tutorial

Now I'm posting my directions for making the

Lollipop Burp Cloth Tutorial

1. Materials: burp cloth, small card stock, cellophane (or shrink wrap), scissors, scallop edgy scissors, lollipop sticks, coordinating ribbons, rubber bands (or hair bands in case you don't have any ;) ), scotch tape, and scrapbook paper to match.

2. Folding your burp cloth: See the pictures below on how I folded one of my Edgy Burpies which can be found in my Etsy Shop for $7/pair. This takes some playing around with. You might decide that folding yours a different way will give you a more preferred outcome.

3. Roll it up!

5. Bind it with a rubber band.

6. Find something around the house about the same size as your roll and trace it on the card stock. Cut out the circle. It is going to serve as a backing for your lollipop stick and to set your burp cloth roll on before wrapping. I actually used card stock that had a really cute print on the other side so that even the backside of my lollipop looks cute!

7. Tape lollipop stick to the paper circle you just cut out. Also, I used my scallop edgy scissors to cut that little strip of scrapbook paper you see wrapped around my lollipop. I taped it to keep it on.

8. Voila! Now you have a cute little treat which makes a wonderful baby shower gift!

My first tutorial- Cupcake Baby Blanket

Here it is-- My very FIRST TUTORIAL! Here we go:

Cupcake Baby Blanket Shower Gift

I have noticed these super sweet and yummy looking gifts quite a bit lately and decided that it was time to try and make one myself! Here is what the finished product looks like:

1. Materials- baby receiving blanket (this is one that I made to sell in my shop, cellophane, rubber bands (I have NONE, so I used hair bands :) ), ribbons to match, large piece of cute scrapbook paper to match, scallop scissors (bought at Joann's on sale for $2.39!), transparent tape, ruler, and regular scissors.

2. Folding- I just tried several ways until I found what looked best. Look at the following pictures to see how I folded. Basically, I wanted a really long and narrow strip. I folded lengthwise (hot dog style!) several times.

3. Roll it up! Keep it tight. It reminded me of rolling up a sleeping bag on old camping trips and sleepovers. This flannel is MUCH easier. :)

4. Here is is all rolled up. While you're rolling, play around with it. You might want to roll it so that the outer edges are further down and the middle is raised (kind of like a cupcake!)

5. Secure with a rubber band:

6. Measure the height of your cupcake and then cut a strip of paper that is about half that size. I traced with a pencil and then cut with my scallop scissors close to the pencil line. Then, take that strip and wrap it around the roll and secure it with your tape. (confession- my paper was not long enough to all of the way around. If this happens to you, you can do like me and just ignore that there is a gap in the back, OR you cut along the diagonal of the paper. I chose not to go that route because my paper had words on it.)

7. Finally, use your cellophane wrap and then tie it up with ribbons and a cute little gift tag. I made my gift card out of some decorative card stock used for scrapbooking. PRESTO! An easy and cute gift! Get ready for all of the oooohs and ahhhhhs at your next baby shower! :)

Variations: I've seen some with cute little crocheted strawberries or cherries on top of the roll. If I'd had some, I would have done that! Instead of cellophane, you can use shrink wrap. I chose cellophane because it is cheaper and I don't mind that it isn't super tight. Tulle is also a cute way to wrap up your cupcake. You can also use a coffee filter to mimic a cupcake liner. Might be cute to go between your paper wrapper and the blanket roll. Be inventive- have fun!

Have you had any cake balls yet? The are so DELECTABLE! In case you're like me and are new to cake balls, they are little ball shaped cakes covered in a candy coating. My favorite thus far have been lemon. I am really looking forward to baking some of my own, but for now I'll just have to live off of my memories. I've already found a great recipe on allrecipes.com. Here is a sneak peak at some new Boutique Burp Cloths that

will be in my shop soon! (I'm actually just waiting for more of my fabric labels to come in the mail so I can sew them on!)

Remember- they are made using chinese cotton prefold cloth diapers (4x6x4 ply). They are DSQ (Diaper Service Quality) which is WAY better than the Gerber prefolds- no offence, it's just true. I'd know I've used them both for my burpies and you can tell the difference just by looking at them.

Take a look at these super cute new burpies!

Another difference is that these are more of a twill

whereas the Gerber ones were birdseye cloth.

They are also heavier and fluffier.

Valentine's Day and Another Tote

He took me out for dinner and we saw Valentine's Day - cute movie.

I was also able to get this tote finished for a friend. You'd be surprised how difficult it was to find red, black, and white fabrics that I liked and actually matched each other. I think it was worth the wait though.

So I have been SWAMPED at work. SERIOUSLY! I feel like I'm living in a swamp with that icky, murky, olive green "stuff" surrounding my feet. I have a bajillion things to take care of and on top of that I'm going to be gone most of next week to a conference. I'm looking forward to it, btw, but it just means I have that much less time to get things accomplished. This peanut-shaped burpie is great for taking care of your little one. The narrow middle fits nicely on your shoulder. It has an extra layer in the middle of COTTON BATTING which helps with absorbency! The great thing about flannel is that it is SO SOFT for your sweet baby and it clings to your clothing preventing it from falling off your shoulder! Missing spit-up is NOT fun!!

Peanut Butter Puppy Treats

As a Christmas present to my dog, Walker, and her friends, I made these very popular Peanut Butter Puppy Treats.

Walker absolutely LOVES them! They are great even for her very sensitive tummy.

Puppy Peanut Butter Cookies

2 cups whole-wheat flour  

1 tbsp. baking powder  

1 cup natural peanut butter (crunchy or smooth)

1 cup milk

Preheat oven to 375°F. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk, then add to dry ingredients and mix well. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Bake for 20 minutes on a greased baking sheet until lightly brown. Cool on a rack, then store in an airtight container. They burn easily- keep an eye on them. Enjoy! They smell just like peanut-butter cookies!!

I made this t-shirt last week. It turned out pretty cute, but the turkey is a bit large! I think this might be cute on an apron or a smaller version on a child's shirt. However, it did give me some great ideas for Christmas work!

Edgy Bib- first attempt

So without having a baby or a bib lying around the house, I tried to make a bib. Just by looking at it, I think the neck is too big and the drop from neck to the bottom isn't long enough. I was going for a squarish look. Maybe next time, I'll just stick with a rounded one.

Guess it's time to create a new pattern, right?

"Edgy" Diaper Bag

Of course Keila had to have a diaper bag to match her baby's new quilt! ;) (Thanks for the order!) The dimensions for this bag are: height- 14", length- 14", and width- 5". The straps measure 26".

It includes a removable support-insert in the bottom. It's totally machine wash and dry! The inside of this bag has 6 pockets!! (1 tall, 3 small along one side, and 2 that are set in about the middle of the bag for things that you don't want to dig for!)

The Rockin' Edgy Diaper Tote features the following fabrics:

Garden Trellis in lime - Michael Miller
Disco Dot in Caribe- Michael Miller

I was SO excited to make this bag!! I started working on it right after lunch and I finished in about 5 hours. Hopefully, I can get some better pictures of my new Fall Edgy Quilted Tote soon!

This tote bag features four different fabrics which you can see on the outside of the bag. It has a three layers- cotton, fleece, and flannel which makes the lining of the tote. Each square has been quilted with a standard X. The interior has 6 pockets!! It's great for organizing all of my small items that tend to get lost in the bottom of my bags. The fleece handles are 26" inches long each and very cushy. The dimensions are: height- 10", length- 14", and width- 5". It also features are super cute button and ribbon closure. Super plush and soft! Just perfect for Fall!

Lovey Blankie with Tags

I made this little Lovey Blankie for Lydia. It coordinates with her bedding that I made recently (see previous blogs). The top is made with a peach cotton fabric and the back is a light green minky dot fabric. The little tags are made with five different coordinating ribbons. This little blanket is perfect to take along everywhere and babies love the little "tags." It is approximately 16" x 20".

Lydia Lemon Quilt

I finished the bedding set for Lori! Here is the quilt:

My 2nd "Edgy Quilt" (also called ragged edge quilt) - I started on that quilt around lunchtime on Saturday and worked on it until right before midnight when it was completed! I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Here are a few pictures!

This quilt has 5 different prints (50% lemons and 50% other). The back is soft, green, minky dot.

There is a heart sewn on the bottom right square of the quilt! :)

Crib Bedding Adventure

My wonderful friend, Lori, is having me make her baby girl, Lydia's, crib bedding. We went last weekend to pick out the fabric. This picture shows the different fabrics that will be used for the bumpers, skirt, and quilt. I'm not making a fitted sheet! :) Lydia's room is painted yellow, so the main fabric will be the lemons. Aren't they juicy?? Check back to see how it all turns out!

Red, White, Blue and Mickey Too!

So ULTRA soft that I wanted to keep it for myself!!

I completed this project this past weekend for a friend who just had a baby boy! It's made with three layers. The back is red flannel. The middle is white flannel and the top has red mickey print cotton and blue flannel. It's hard to see in some of the pictures, due to the great contrast between red and blue.

The quilt is approximately 30" by 40". These "Edgy Quilts" are available for special order for $45.

Repurposed/Upcycled Sling Bag!

I took my old Gap skirt and turned it into a sling bag! I used my Amy Butler Birdie Sling Bag pattern and bought the rest of the materials to make this bag. It is currently for sale on Etsy!

I recently ran across a pattern and some great fabric on Etsy that I was just dying to try out. I ordered it during Spring Break and began cutting out pieces as soon as it all arrived. Last night was my first time to sit down and sew on it. I started around 5:30ish and finished sometime around 11pm. I love my new bag! It was a lot of work and takes multiple materials/fabrics, but I might start making them to sell on my Etsy site.
